These studies were to assess the present status of resistance to antibiotics, and transferability of R-factors against E. coli strains.
From January to May 1988, 68 strains of E. coli were isolated from specimens of patients collected at Kyung-Hee University Hopital in Seoul, and 100 strains from stools of swine in Chonan City, Chung Nam.
In order to examine the resistancepatteren and R-plasmid profile of strains isolated from human and animals.
1. Drug r4esistant strains of E. coli isolated from patienst and swine were amounted to 58(85.3%) and 77 (77%).
2. resistance to ampicillin, tetracycline and chloramphenicol was the highest in th those isolated from patients, resistance to tetracycline, ampicillin and stretomycin was the highest in those isolated from swine.
3. In the transfer test of dury resistance by conjugation method, 16 strains(34.8%) isolated from patients, 9 strains (23.1%) isolated from swine showed results.
4. In plasmid profile of resistance strains, molecular weight of plasmid ranged 48 to 70 megadalton.
